1. Attend a spooktacular Halloween-themed concert with hundreds of flickering candles

Candlelight presents breathtaking classical concerts in over 100 cities around the world, and we can’t wait to see their special upcoming Halloween-themed shows. Settle into an intimate space lit only by a sea of flickering candles, an ambiance that melds beautifully with live renditions of haunting Halloween melodies.

2. Party all night on a rambunctious Halloween pub crawl

Halloween always brings multiple lively pub crawls to the streets of San Francisco. Here are a few to consider:
Trick or Drink (Oct. 25-26 and 31, 2024) – Gain entry to 16 different bars in SF’s North Beach neighborhood including Northstar Cafe, The Irish Times, and Persona.
Crawloween (Oct. 25-26 and 31, 2024) – Put together your best costume and get ready to join over 10,000 crawlers at over 25 participating bars, with hop-on, hop-off party buses running through the entire route.
3. Get into character at the House of Spirits, an immersive cocktail soirée

A hauntingly beautiful Halloween event is coming to San Francisco’s 9th Street Building this October. Sip on themed cocktails while watching a macabre adults-only show, hosted by the mysterious hypnotist Doctor Grigor Volkov. With Halloween quickly approaching, it’s the perfect time for a scary movie. Whether you’re looking for campy fun or a bone-chilling thriller, it’s officially the season for horror films. Luckily, many SF theaters will play your favorite Halloween classics as the holiday approaches, including Balboa Theater and Alamo Draft House.
Sundown Cinema’s popular free movie nights come to a close on October 18th, with a screening of The Nightmare Before Christmas at the Jerry Garcia Amphitheater. There will be a costume contest before the show.

Thousands of San Franciscans come out for the massive Leap Sandcastle Classic every October. The beloved tradition is over four decades running, and ups the ante every single year with enormous sand sculptures, live music and performances, and food trucks. This year’s theme is “Out of this World,” so you can anticipate an entertaining lineup of extraterrestrial creations.

The 52nd annual Half Moon Bay Pumpkin Festival is a damn good pumpkin party that you don’t want to miss this year. Pumpkin masters around the country duke it out at the “Super Bowl of weigh-offs” with enormous gourds weighing in at over a ton each. Eat pounds of pumpkin pie, buy fall-inspired crafts, and enjoy the coastal environment at this delightful fall event.

Apple picking and hot chocolate are all good and well, but if you’re looking for something a bit spookier you’re in the right place. We’ve rounded up some of the best haunted houses in the Bay Area, from the family-friendly to the downright terrifying. Favorites include Fear Overload Scream Park in Newark, Tricks and Treats at Great America in Santa Clara, and a new immersive haunted hotel experience at the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose.
10. Get tickets to the California Academy of Sciences’ popular “SuperNatural” event

The Academy of Sciences is bringing back their popular kid-centric Halloween event in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park. Join a silent disco in the middle of Steinhart Aquarium, make the rounds at trick-or-treat stations, watch epic live animal demos, and take your costume up a notch at the face painting station. There’s also a teen-only lounge with arcade games and snacks.

Whether you’re looking for family activities with kids or getting ahead of your Halloween decorating, these excellent Bay Area farms and pumpkin patches have got you covered with seasonal events to boot.
