The San Francisco 49ers will not be without superstar running back Christian McCaffrey for much longer according to a report on Friday morning.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport revealed that McCaffrey is likely to return to the field for the Niners in Week 10 following San Francisco’s upcoming bye week.
The three-time Pro Bowler and 2023 AP Offensive Player of the Year has not yet played this season while dealing with achilles tendonitis.

Christian McCaffrey Expected To Return To 49ers For Week 10 Against Bucs
“This actually might be the last game where Jordan Mason is the bell cow,” Rapoport said of San Francisco’s game against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. “The 49ers have a bye. Christian McCaffrey should start practicing and there’s a very good chance that McCaffrey is on the field November 10th for the 49ers’ next game…”
That’s good news for the Niners and their fans, and also a far cry from the worrisome comments made by San Francisco general manager John Lynch a month ago.
“We needed to quiet it down,” Lynch said of the injury at the time. “The plan was to give it the time to do that and then at some point in a thoughtful way to ramp him back up.”
“What he does and where he goes, he’s got people who work on his body and have for a long time,” Lynch said. “Now he’s back here and we’ll have to hit certain markers and try the ramp up. God willing, the thing has quieted down and we can build him up in a smart, thoughtful way.”
McCaffrey reportedly flew to Germany to undergo special treatment for the ailment. Whatever the alleged treatment was, it clearly worked. And at 3-4, the 49ers badly need their superstar back and looking like he did throughout the 2023 season.
