Following a sixth straight loss, Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus met with the media on Friday morning, much to the dismay of Bears fans everywhere. Eberflus is less than 24 hours removed from another gut-wrenching loss, falling 23-20 to the Detroit Lions, in which there was once again failure in late-game execution. The head coach was asked multiple times about his job security, and while he sounded exhausted, he is telling everyone he is prepared to work another week.
Eberflus said he is preparing to coach against the San Francisco 49ers and sounded very certain that was the plan moving forward. “I’m confident that I’ll be working onto San Francisco and getting ready for that game,” he said via Marquee Bears. Immediately after the loss, Eberflus stated that he was going to put his best foot forward and prepare for the 49ers, and he kept that same tune on Friday morning.
Jason Lieser of the Chicago Sun-Times followed up, asking if Eberflus was certain that would be the case, and the head coach insisted it was business as usual. “The operation’s been normal, Jason,” he said. “In terms of debrief after the game, coming in, grading the tape, and meeting with the coordinators. It’s been normal operation.”
“It’s been normal operation” today at Halas Hall, Bears coach Matt Eberflus said. They’ve watched the film and they’ll get ready for the 49ers. That’s how he’s operating right now.

Things may be far from over right now, however, as meetings are still planned later today. Even after they met immediately after the loss to the Lions on Thursday, Eberflus revealed that he will be meeting with team president Kevin Warren and general manager Ryan Poles on Friday afternoon.
Bears coach Matt Eberflus said he had several conversations with Ryan Poles and Kevin Warren as part of his typical “debrief” after the game.
But he will also be talking to them again later today, he said.

As of Friday morning, Matt Eberflus has a job, but with meetings still planned for the afternoon, things could change quickly heading into the weekend.
