Quick thoughts from South Florida Sun Sentinel staffers on the Miami Dolphins’ 29-17 win over the San Francisco 49ers at Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday:
Chris Perkins, Dolphins Columnist
The Dolphins beat a sub.-500 team that came to Hard Rock Stadium. That’s better than losing to a sub-.500 team that came to Hard Rock Stadium. But it’s the same old story. It’s a good victory but it doesn’t change the storyline of the season or the franchise since 2022. Still, nice job.
David Furones, Dolphins Writer
The Dolphins stayed alive. They still need a lot of help while having to win out against the Browns and Jets on the road. It was good to see the defense step up when needed and for Miami to finally put a good ground game together, while Tua Tagovailoa did not turn the ball over.
Steve Svekis, Assistant Sports Editor
The Dolphins’ season stays alive, but a very important aspect is that, somehow, assuming the Denver Broncos lose in Cincinnati next week, the Chiefs must have a reason to play their regular-season finale against the Broncos. So, basically, this is the rooting guide next week for Dolphins fans: Dolphins, Patriots, Bengals, Bills, Steelers and Giants. If the Dolphins lose or if the Bengals (against the Broncos) and Patriots (against the Chargers) lose, Miami’s playoff chances are over.
Keven Lerner, Assistant Sports Editor
The Dolphins, led by De’Von Achane, mixed in just enough big plays in key moments to turn back a challenge by a team that has won many playoff games. How, while requiring many results to go their way, the path gets more reasonable by the day.
