The San Francisco 49ers have reportedly fired special teams coordinator Brian Schneider after a disappointing 2024 season.
The 49ers reached last year’s Super Bowl, where they were beaten in overtime by the Kansas City Chiefs.
This season, however, San Francisco missed out on the playoffs after finishing with a 6-11 record.
Team CEO Jed York has nevertheless confirmed that head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch will remain in post next season.
But, according to multiple reports, Schneider has paid the price for a tough season with his job.
The 49ers lost a number of tight games amid blunders from the special teams, while kicker Jake Moody struggled late on in the season.

Special teams errors proved particularly costly as San Francisco suffered early losses to the Minnesota Vikings and Los Angeles Rams.
The 49ers ended up finishing bottom of the NFC West, behind the Cardinals, the Seahawks and the Rams. But Shanahan and Lynch have held on to their jobs.
‘They’re not going anywhere,’ York told The San Francisco Standard. ‘You can write that, for sure.’
According to The Athletic, citing special teams rankings by DVOA (defense-adjusted value over average), the San Francisco 49ers finished 31st out of 32 teams in 2024.
They finished 25th in 2023 and 15th in 2022, when Schneider was hired to replace Richard Hightower.
