Shinde, who has been living in the US for four years, met with an accident on February 14 and sustained major injuries.
She was operated on her brain at a local hospital and has been in a coma since.
Her family has sought an urgent visa to travel to the US, and the Ministry of External Affairs has taken up the matter with the US to provide them with an immediate visa. The family got a call from the US Embassy in Mumbai for a visa interview on Friday after the MEA’s intervention in the case. The slot for getting the visa to the US was available for next year, the family had earlier said, urging the Centre to help in the grant of an early visa.
India then stepped in and took the matter up with the US, urging the other side to fast-track the visa process for the family.
