A viral TikTok post claims the Bay Area’s northern boundary ends at the Sonoma-Marin county line, leaving out Sonoma and Napa counties.
A San Francisco real agent is going viral for saying that Sonoma County, Fairfield, Gilroy and other regions are not part of the Bay Area, causing a frenzy of online comments.
Erik Throm, who bills himself as a “Top 1% Realtor” in the city, kicked the proverbial hornet’s nest in a Feb. 8 TikTok post where he shared a map of the nine counties that make up the Bay Area and proceeded to give his opinion on what he considers part of the Bay.
According to Throm, the Bay Area’s northern boundary ends at the Sonoma-Marin county line, leaving out Sonoma and Napa counties.
“Sonoma County doesn’t even want to be the Bay Area,” Throm said in the post. “I love Sonoma County, but no.”
Throm also declared the Bay Area’s northeast boundary was at north of Vallejo, the east boundary at Pleasanton and Livermore, and the southern boundary at Morgan Hill.
Unsurprisingly, Throm’s post exploded with more than 432,000 views and over 1,500 comments on TikTok as of Thursday, with many commenters offering their take.
“Sonoma county literally touches the bay 😭,” wrote TikTok user @seangause.
“Santa Rosa here and I will be claiming the bay thank you,” wrote TikTok user @dennifromtheblock.
“Santa Rosa is the bay Napa the bay Fairfield the end of the bay,” wrote TikTok user @charlesbellard539.
