The official unveiling of Marco Cochrane’s R-Evolution sculpture will be April 10.
After the last-minute scuttling of plans to erect Marco Cochrane’s R-Evolution sculpture in San Francisco’s Union Square, the future of the towering nude art piece – created in Petaluma 10 years ago for 2015’s Burning Man – was a bit uncertain.
In announcing the cancellation of the Union Square location, due to fears that the heavy sculpture could damage historic tiles on the plaza, it was hinted that conversations had begun with the city to place the statue at Embarcadero Plaza.
Now it’s official: Where Market Street meets the Embarcadero, “R-Evolution” will rise.
A new date has been announced for the official unveiling of R-Evolution on Thursday, April 10, beginning at 5 p.m. The free event is open to all, and will include a meet-and-greet with Cochrane and his team of artists who assisted in the installation, a light show, live DJs, a full bar and food, and plenty of exceptional photo opportunities.
Local fans of the artwork are invited to show their support by coming as a group. Such plans are being discussed on Cochrane’s Facebook page, where a number of Petalumans say they will take advantage of SMART’s $20 round-trip “Sail and Rail” transit deal, taking the train to Larkspur, then the ferry to San Francisco terminal, which is right where the event happens.
The statue will be on display in the city for several months, so there’s plenty of time to visit “R-Evolution” while she’s enjoying her stay in San Francisco.
