Years of not having a ton of picks – and mediocre drafting – caught up to the 49ers last season when the injuries hit, but it built up to this draft loaded with prospects.
It’s San Francisco, though, so the draft was … odd.
The edge rusher was there at the 11, and Mykel Williams was a no-problem great player pick, but there’s almost nothing of real substance for the offense, the value with each selection is almost non-existent, and even with the 11 selections, there were glaring needs ignored.
With that said, there’s a shot they found some more seventh-round Brock Purdy-like quarterback magic with Indiana’s Kurtis Rourke, and the infrastructure got some help, but, considering all the picks it’s just an okay draft.

What Went Right?
There were SO many picks, a few of the late ones could connect. Getting Jordan James in the fifth round was solid, and going bulk picks at defense tackle was good, but this draft will be all about whether or not they got the right edge rusher in Williams – the first round was loaded at the position.

What Went Wrong?
Ehhhhhh, again with the value – and no offensive tackles with all those picks? Alfred Collins went about a round too early, and Nick Martin was a too-early Day 3 grab. There are plenty of nice options, but few sure things among all the selections.
