The San Francisco 49ers are set to sell around 6 per cent of the NFL franchise to three wealthy American families – after seeing their value surge by almost £1bn.
The investment group of the NFL giants are in talks to buy a controlling stake in Rangers with businessman Andrew Cavenagh teaming up with them to lead the takeover.
It’s a takeover saga which dragging out due to the complicated process involved in acquiring shares from a wide spread of Rangers shareholders, but it is a matter of when rather than if.
In the background though the 49ers are reportedly involved in another deal that will bring in some serious cash.
Sportico report that they have agreed to sell six per cent of the franchise to three millionaire families in the Bay Area.
Before any such transaction can take place, the selling company undergoes a financial evaluation. And the one done for this deal specifically valued the 49ers at $8.5bn – up from $7.2bn earlier this year.
The sharp rise in the valuation of the NFL franchise likely means that six per cent stake was sold for around $500m (£375m).
It’s added that the new valuation of one of the most famous names in American sports is now the highest ever recorded for a global sports team in a transaction.
