SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) — San Francisco is the most prepared U.S. city for new transportation technologies like artificial intelligence, autonomous vehicles, and air taxis, according to a new urban mobility readiness index released Tuesday.

The index, created by the Oliver Wyman Forum and the University of California, Berkeley, evaluated 70 global cities on a range of factors such as walkability, air quality, electric vehicle ownership and charging infrastructure, share of pedestrians, public transit access, and cycling infrastructure.

This year’s methodology adds new metrics on innovation, social impact, infrastructure, and system efficiency, in line with the latest urban mobility trends. The cities that top the index are those that consistently invest in infrastructure, increase system efficiency, and embrace innovative technologies.

Overall, San Francisco took the top spot followed by Paris, Singapore, Munich, and Amsterdam.

This year, the index included a new technology adoption sub index that assessed how prepared cities are for new technologies like autonomous vehicles.

San Francisco, which is home to numerous autonomous vehicle companies and where Waymo operates a commercial robotaxi service, took the top spot. Los Angeles, Shanghai, Beijing, and Seoul rounded out the top five tech-ready cities index.
