San Francisco 49ers Continue Roster Moves Ahead of Training Camp originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

The San Francisco 49ers are still trying to improve the roster ahead of training camp.

After an abysmal 6-11 season last year that saw them miss the playoffs and finish in last place in the NFC West, there is lots of room for improvement.

As the new draft picks and free agent signings get acclimated to the Bay Area, the team continues to make changes ahead of training camp.

The team officially announced it placed wideout Trent Taylor on injured reserve due to what is believed to be a back injury. It’s unclear when the injury was suffered but it’s believed it was sometime during OTAs last week per Matt Barrows of The Athletic.

Taylor was drafted by the 49ers in the fifth round in 2017 but had moved on to both the Chicago Bears and  Cincinnati Bengals. He returned to Santa Clara last season on a one-year deal.

Defensive end and trade target Bryce Huff officially passed his physical, which finalizes the trade from the Philadelphia Eagles. Huff was acquired for a conditional fifth-round pick that could turn into a fourth-rounder.

The team also announced that it signed wideout Malik Knowles to a one-year contract while waiving offensive lineman Nicholas Petit-Frere in a corresponding move. Petit-Frere was signed on May 9.

Knowles was originally signed by the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent in 2023, where he spent one season before moving on to the Green Bay Packers for a season.

The 24-year-old played collegiately at Kansas State, where he appeared in 51 games with 127 catches for 1,867 yards and 14 touchdowns.
