San Francisco Unicorns are a testament to revival, resilience, and rising expectations in Major League Cricket (MLC). Launched in 2023 as one of the league’s founding six teams, the Unicorns carry the vision of bringing elite cricket to the San Francisco Bay Area. With future matches set to be hosted at the Oakland Coliseum, the team has strong foundations and global backing — including a strategic partnership with Cricket Victoria of Australia.
The Unicorns had a rocky start to their MLC journey, finishing fifth in the 2023 standings and narrowly missing out on a playoff berth. However, that season laid the groundwork for what followed.
Under the leadership of Corey Anderson and head coach Shane Watson, the team roared into the 2024 season with renewed purpose. A stacked squad featuring Romario Shepherd, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Tim Seifert, and speedster Haris Rauf helped the Unicorns finish second in the league phase. Although they were defeated by Washington Freedom in the Qualifier, they bounced back to beat Texas Super Kings in the Challenger and reach their first MLC final. Despite a spirited effort, they ended as runners-up, falling once again to the formidable Washington Freedom.
As MLC 2025 gears up from June 12 to July 13, with six teams playing 34 matches, the Unicorns are looking to capitalise on last season’s momentum. The heartbreak of falling one step short is now fueling their fire to lift the trophy.
