The San Francisco 49ers defense is hoping for a resurgence under new defensive coordinator Robert Saleh.

After a five-year absence, Saleh returns to San Francisco to help fix an offense that was plagued by poor play and injuries last year.
Saleh’s return means a renewed focus on the linebacker and pass rusher positions, and it started with the drafting of former Georgia Bulldogs pass rusher Mykel Williams.
Williams was the 11th overall pick by the Niners in this year’s draft, and is slated to be an important part of the improvement of the pass rush and the defense under Saleh.
And one of the defensive leaders is already helping mentor Williams.
Bosa and Williams just became teammates, and Bosa is already helping welcome Williams to San Francisco.

“A lot of eagerness to learn, more so than I have seen probably from a young guy,” Bosa said. “[Williams] just wants to learn as much as he can, and I’m excited to give all the knowledge I can to him. I think he’s got a ton of talent, so the sky’s the limit.”
Bosa recognizes the talent with Williams and isn’t trying “force anything.”
“I definitely don’t force anything,” Bosa said. “I just try to give him enough. If I put myself in his shoes as a rookie, what would have helped me, what would have been too much, what I would have tried to avoid. So, just get him focused on the right things. Things that will make him effective right away and things that I wish that I knew as a rookie.”
