Mick LaSalle of the San Francisco Chronicle is appearing at Blue Note in Napa.
Who will the Academy Award for Best Picture this year?
Mick LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle columnist and film critic, will offer his answers to that question and others, during his annual “Oscar Talk!” appearance at 7 p.m. Feb. 26 at the Blue Note in Napa.
LaSalle will discuss this year’s crop of Oscar contenders — including his picks, pans, and predictions — and will take questions from the audience.
The discussion will be moderated by Barry Martin, morning host at radio station 99.3 FM, “The Vine.”
Doors open at 6 p.m. and dinner, wine, beer and cocktails are available throughout the evening.
LaSalle is the author of “Complicated Women: Sex and Power in Pre-Code Hollywood” (2000), a history/critical study of the actresses who worked during the pre-censorship “pre-Code” era of 1929-1934.
LaSalle also wrote and co-produced the “Complicated Women” documentary for Turner Classic Movies, which was narrated by Jane Fonda.
His other books include “Dangerous Men: Pre-Code Hollywood and the Birth of the Modern Man,” (2002); “The Beauty of the Real: What Hollywood Can Learn from Contemporary French Actresses,” (2012); and “Dream State: California in the Movies,” (2021).
LaSalle has taught in Stanford University’s Continuing Studies department since 2004. In the late 1990s, he was the on-air film critic for the ABC-TV affiliate in San Francisco, KGO.
