Veteran fullback Kyle Juszczyk is being released by the San Francisco 49ers after eight seasons with the team, according to reports.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter claims 49ers chiefs informed Juszczyk, 33, on Monday night that his time in San Francisco is set to come to an end when the new league year begins on Wednesday.
He was due to earn a base salary of $4.1million with the team in 2025, along with a $100k signing bonus.
According to Schefter, the nine-time Pro Bowler has no plans to retire and will instead play on next season, coming as a major alert to NFL teams as he prepares to enter free agency.
Juszczyk, the husband of fashion designer Kristin, enjoyed a memorable stint with the Niners, making it to the Super Bowl on two separate occasions.
He was one of the first players signed after coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch took over in 2017 and has been a key part of the offense since then thanks to his versatility.

During their 31-20 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in 2020, Juszczyk became the first Harvard alumnus in history to score a touchdown in a Super Bowl, while also taking three catches for 39 receiving yards.
Juszczyk and the Niners made it back to the NFL’s showpiece game four years later, only to suffer another defeat to the Chiefs – and this time in even more agonizing fashion after a last-gasp Mecole Hardman Jr touchdown in overtime.
Last season Shanahan’s men failed to make it into the postseason altogether after a disappointing campaign which saw them suffer injuries to a number of key players.
San Francisco is therefore undergoing a major revamp this offseason, with wide receiver Deebo Samuel already traded to the Washington Commanders.
Now Juszczyk is the latest high-profile name heading for the exit at Levi’s Stadium, bringing an end to his iconic spell with the Niners.
He was forced to take a pay cut last season and will now hit the open market as San Francisco looks to make the roster younger and cheaper.
The Niners have also said they plan to release defensive tackle Javon Hargrave later this week and are expected to cut defensive tackle Maliek Collins if they can’t find a trade partner.
Juszczyk began his NFL career with the Baltimore Ravens, who selected him in the fourth round of the 2013 draft.
After four years in Baltimore, where he earned his first Pro Bowl selection, the Harvard graduate entered free agency for the first time before heading to San Francisco.
