Two big moves from state officials this week target the future of recycling. Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a bill banning the use of plastic bags, and Attorney General Rob Bonta is suing ExxonMobil for allegedly misleading the public about recycling plastics. “They have created this plastic problem,” said Sejal Choksi-Chew, the executive director of San Francisco Baykeeper. “The plastic crisis we are seeing all around the San Francisco Bay’s watershed. All the way up from the Sacramento River down to the San Francisco Bay. We are seeing little tiny plastic particles in the water.”
