We thought we were done with the heat—it’s almost October, for crying out loud. So why is the National Weather Service’s San Francisco Bay Area division telling us that next week, we’ll see temperatures that will be some of the highest we’ve experienced all year? It’s enough to make you throw your pumpkin spice latté at the thermostat. We’re simply not built to handle this! We demand fog and chilly temps.
According to the NWS, “a warm-up is on the way early next week, when some coastal locations will likely see close to their warmest temperatures of the year so far. Though we aren’t expecting any major wind, fire concerns are elevated thanks to the hot temperatures and extremely dry fuels.” Should we blame the messenger?
According to Weather Underground, the highest temperature in the city this year was the week of July 4, when the high was 94 degrees and the average was 75.

While tomorrow is going to hit a high of 82 degrees, the weekend will luckily get decent with Saturday at 70 and Sunday at 72. But brace yourself for Monday, when we’ll pop back up to 81, and then plan to be somewhere else entirely on Tuesday, when it hits 88. Wednesday will be back to a more reasonable 80 and then beautiful temperatures win out again on Thursday with 74 degrees. And then we can happily recommence the wearing of the cardigans while we hike the blustery bluffs.
