Green Day is about to be getting much less airtime in the city of Las Vegas after singer Billie Joe Armstrong issued a bold—and locally controversial—declaration about Sin City during a recent concert in their hometown area of San Francisco.
Vegas station KOMP 92.3 took to Instagram after word got out that the musician had shouted, “I hate Las Vegas. It’s the worst s–thole in America,” during the show, posting a photo of the band with a red prohibition sign edited over them and announcing that the band would no longer be heard on their airwaves.
“KOMP 92.3 has pulled any and all Green Day from our playlist,” they wrote. “It’s not us, Billie…it’s you. #vegas4ever.”
X 107.5 made a similar announcement via their website, writing that “Sin City heard him loud and clear.”
“In response to Armstrong’s inflammatory comments, the station is banning all Green Day music, effective immediately,” they continued, adding that “Armstrong has crossed a line with Las Vegas locals.”
Armstrong’s “inflammatory comments” were a direct response to the upcoming move of the Oakland A’s to Las Vegas, where they’ll take up residence in the still-under-construction New Las Vegas Stadium, which is replacing the defunct Tropicana Las Vegas.
“We don’t take no s–t from people like John f—–g Fisher who sold out the Oakland A’s to Las f—–g Vegas,” Armstrong said, referencing the team’s owner, who also part-owns the San Francisco Giants. “I hate Las Vegas. It’s the worst s–thole in America.”
Those at the Bay Area show certainly shared similar sentiments, but, unfortunately, it looks like Green Day has become Public Enemy Number One across the Nevada border.
