MIAMI – August 24, 2022 –Alessandro Villa, DDS, PhD, MPH, joins Miami Cancer Institute, part of Baptist Health, as chief of oral medicine, oral oncology and dentistry. Dr. Villa specializes in oral mucosal and salivary gland diseases, oral precancers and oral complications from cancer treatment. He is fluent in English and Italian.

Prior to joining Miami Cancer Institute, Dr. Villa was the Chief of Oral Medicine at the University of California San Francisco, Medical Center and an associate clinical professor of oral medicine and otolaryngology at University of California San Francisco.
A renowned researcher, he focuses on oral dysplasia, oral complications from cancer therapy and prevention of HPV-associated oropharyngeal cancers. Dr. Villa’s been the principal investigator in several clinical trials including the use of immunotherapy to manage oral proliferative leukoplakia. His work has been published in Cancer, JCO Clinical Practice, the Journal of Cancer Education, the Journal of the American Dental Association and more.
Dr. Villa earned his DDS from the University of Milano, Italy and his PhD from the University of Sassari, Italy. He completed his oral medicine residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard School of Dental Medicine.
