At least a share of the lead in the NFC West is on the line on Thursday Night Football. The current division leaders, the Seattle Seahawks, host the reigning NFC champions, the San Francisco 49ers, for a divisional dual on primetime. Both teams are desperate to get back to winning ways after recent losing skids.

San Francisco 49ers vs. Seattle Seahawks odds, pick, prediction
San Francisco had one of the easiest early-season schedules on paper. Unfortunately for the 49ers, football is played on a field and not on paper. Kyle Shanahan’s injury-ridden squad now sits 2-3 with two bad losses in the last three weeks. Can they bounce back on the road against a division rival?
Seattle has a leg up on its visitors at 3-2 on the year. However, is anybody impressed by the Seahawks’ résumé so far? As the late Dennis Green famously said, “They are who we thought they were.” Nevertheless, a win over San Francisco on Thursday Night Football would be a fantastic early-season result for the hosts as they look to increase their division lead.
FanDuel Sportsbook lists the 49ers as 3.5-point road favorites with an over/under of 48.5.
Let’s take a closer look at the odds and trends:
San Francisco 49ers vs. Seattle Seahawks
Time/TV: 7:15 p.m. CT (Amazon Prime)
Spread (via FanDuel Sportsbook): 49ers -3.5
Total: 48.5
Moneyline: 49ers -176, Seahawks +148
Analysis: Both teams have dealt with key injuries early in the year, especially on the offensive side of the ball. San Francisco’s superstar Christian McCaffrey remains out, but both teams come into this contest relatively healthy otherwise.
Home underdogs in divisional games are usually automatic picks for sharp bettors. I have a feeling that won’t be the case in this contest, though.
Seattle is coming off an embarrassing home loss to the New York Giants and it marks the second consecutive defeat for Mike Macdonald’s men. The Seahawks have tallied wins over the Denver Broncos, New England Patriots and Tua Tagovailoa-less Miami Dolphins thus far. Teams can only beat those put in front of them, but the best way to describe Seattle right now is a bottom feeder.
As for San Francisco, it simply looks like a football team trying to piece it all together early in the season. The positive signs from last year’s Super Bowl run are still there, which is why oddsmakers aren’t hitting the panic button yet.
I’m weary of playing a full-game spread given the inconsistencies on both sides.
Most of the problems for the 49ers have come in the second half — specifically the fourth quarter — and the Seahawks haven’t been stellar out of the gate. San Francisco is 4-1 in first halves this year to Seattle’s 2-2-1, which is why I believe there’s value in backing the visitors to cover the 2.5-point first-half spread.
Prediction: 49ers 27, Seahawks 17 (Under 48.5)
Best bet: 49ers -2.5 first-half spread over Seahawks (-110 at FanDuel Sportsbook)
