Junior Lucy Jeffers netted three goals and added an assist to lead Redwood High past host Marin Academy, 9-0, on Wednesday. Jane Broderick came through with two goals and two assists, while Caitlin Titcombe also scored twice for the Giants. Moni Hewlette and Kaitlin Stewart rounded out the scoring for Redwood (136-3, 10-2-2 MCAL).
The Giants, currently third in the MCaL, are in the thick of the playoff hunt with two games left on the schedule. In other games Wednesday, first-place Tam beat Lick-Wilmerding, 2-0, and second-place University beat Archie Williams, 8-0.
Girls tennis
Marin Catholic’s Christiane Zuber held off Terra Linda’s Kylie Lee, 6-4, 6-4, in a No. 1 singles match as the Wildcats beat the Trojans, 5-2, on Wednesday. Ellie Damiani gave the Wildcats a win at No. 2 singles and Marin Catholic swept doubles play. Terra Linda’s Chloe Sason and Mimi Kemp won at Nos. 3 and 4 singles, respectively.
Alexa Warrin stepped up to No. 2 singles for a 6-3, 6-3 win against Lea Gurman on Wednesday, as the Branson School swept San Rafael, 7-0, at College of Marin. Simone Schacter gave the Bulls a win at No. 1 singles against the Bulldogs’ Taylor Derr-Miura. Olivia Shekou and Clarissa Chong also won for Branson.
San Marin’s Tessa Christian held on for a 7-6, 3-6 (10-4) win over Archie Williams’ Kathleen Schalit in a battle at No. 4 singles as the Mustangs swept the Peregrine Falcons, 7-0 on Wednesday. Deepti Bhat, Brooke Bested and Emily McCoy also won in singles matches for the Mustangs.
Julia Laury of Redwood beat Novato’s Claire Hannan, 6-1, 6-0, at the top of the singles ladder as the Giants swept the Hornets, 7-0, on Wednesday. The Giants’ Livia Klompus, Laina Khan and Hannah Gould also won singles matches.
Girls cross country
Archie Williams runners took the top three spots as the Peregrine Falcons outscored Tam and Terra Linda in Mill Valley on Tuesday. The Falcons’ Ani Stieg (18:34.56) took first place, ahead of teammates Alyssa Silverstein (19:10.83) and Brooke Lee (19:14.33).
Tam’s Brooklyn Hatch (20:05.330 and Jane Song (20:24.49) placedfourth and fifth, respectively, with Terra Linda’s Annie Carmona (20:37.92) sixth.
Archie Williams edged Tam, 24-32, and beat Terra Linda, 18-41. Tam beat Terra Linda, 18-43.
Audrey Spaly was first across the line in 19 minutes, 32 seconds, with three of her teammates following behind her as the Branson School took the top four spots to win a dual meet with San Rafael and San Marin at Miwok Meadows on Tuesday. The Bulls’ Farah Allen, Imogen Brown and Madison Polsky finished 2-3-4. The Bulldogs’ Hadley Balch (21:31) took fifth place, and the Mustangs’ Quincy Dean (22:50) finished seventh. Branson beat San Rafael, 16-33, and the Bulls beat San Marin, 15-45. San Rafael and San Marin tied, 24-24.
Sydney Middleton finished the Indian Valley College course in 19 minutes, 43 seconds to lead Redwood past Marin Catholic and Novato. The Giants’ Kate Kozubik (19:54) and Marley Nacco (19;55) placed second and third, as Redwood runners took the top six spots. Marin Catholic’s Caroline McMillan (22;06), Katie McConneloug (22:12) and Kate Patterson (22:16) placed 7th-9th. Novato was led by junior Kate Metzger (24:40) in 25th place. Redwood beat Novato, 15-50, and Marin Catholic, 15-47. Marin Catholic beat Novato, 15-50.
Boys cross country
San Marin’s Justin Catanach edged San Rafael’s Teo Cristea by 2 seconds to win Tuesday’s trimeet with Branson at Miwok Meadows. Catanch finished in 16:47.00 to beat out Cristea (16:49) and the Bulls’ Gian-Carlo Marca (18:12).
San Rafael beat San Marin, 26-29, head-to-head but Branson won matchups with both teams, 26-30, over San Rafael, and 27-30 over San Marin.
Redwood runners finished 1-2-3 at the Indian Valley College course on Tuesday. The Giants’ Justin Shern (16:44) led teammates Oliver Bush (16:53) and Liam McCaw (17:00), followed in fourth place by Marin Catholic’s Jonnie Choi (17:12). Cruz Indra (17:49) led Novato in 10th place. Redwood outscored Marin Catholic, 19-40, and Novato, 15-49. Marin Catholic beat Novato, 17-46.
