Nick Bosa wants everybody to know he supports Donald Trump. Just don’t ask him to elaborate!
The San Francisco 49ers star and toxic thirst trap crashed his teammates’ post-game interview on Sunday Night Football, wearing a white MAGA hat with yellow lettering. He entered the shot without saying a word, and then left.
“Alright, Nick Bosa with a message there,” the interviewer said, playing off his awkward interruption.

Niners quarterback Brock Purdy and tight end George Kittle, who connected for a crucial second-half touchdown in the 49ers’ 30-24 win over the Dallas Cowboys, appeared to laugh nervously.

Bosa, a vicious pass-rusher, has a history of spouting far-right views. Prior to getting drafted, the 2022 NFL Defensive Player of the Year called Colin Kaepernick a “clown” for his on-field demonstration against racial injustice. He also “liked” Instagram posts with racial and homophobic slurs.
Though Bosa deleted the posts in question before the 2019 NFL Draft, he didn’t seem like a changed man. “I had to,” he said at the time. “There is a chance I might end up in San Francisco.”
Sure enough, the Niners selected Bosa with the No. 2 overall pick. During his first press conference as a 49er, Bosa apologized for his ignorant social media activity.
“I’m sorry if I hurt anybody,” he told reporters. “I definitely didn’t intend for that to be the case.”
“I think me being here [San Francisco] is even better for me as a person, because I don’t think there’s anywhere, any city, that you could really be in that would help you grow as much as this one will.”

While young people can–and often–change over time, there’s scant evidence that Bosa has undergone much evolution in the Bay Area. He’s never expanded on his social or political views, despite obvious pro-Trump overtones, such as posing for a picture with the criminally convicted ex-president at a UFC event.
But on Sunday, Bosa was presented with a prime opportunity to talk about his belief system. It seemed like he was begging for the question, too. He crashed his teammates’ interview wearing a MAGA hat, after all!
Except… Bosa didn’t take advantage of the opportunity to articulate himself. When asked about his stunt, he demurred.
“I’m not gonna talk too much about it,” he said. “But I think it’s an important time.”
It’s worth noting that Bosa also changed hats…

Bosa, of course, has the right to say or not say anything he wants. He’s under no obligation to entertain questions about his politics.
But it is telling that Bosa went out of the way to express support for Trump–in an objectively obnoxious manner–only to shut down any sort of dialogue about the matter. It makes his support come across as a troll job, rather than a genuine endorsement.
But maybe the trolling is the point. “Lack of substance. Does the act, gets the attention he wants, and won’t elaborate on why it’s important, if 45’s most appealing trait to him is his view on race relations, or anything else,” wrote sportswriter Alex Kirshner.

As one of the most inclusive organizations in the NFL, the 49ers court LGBTQ+ fans, even establishing their own official PRIDE community. “What the San Francisco 49ers taught me about football and queerness,” wrote Outsports contributor Brian Bell before last season’s Super Bowl.
Queer 49ers fans cheer for Bosa, too, and may be curious to find out more regarding his support for a candidate who wants to roll back protections for LGBTQ+ people at every turn.
But apparently, Bosa doesn’t seem interested in starting a conversation. He would rather troll, and then exit the frame.
That’s pretty weak.

If you are going to flaunt a hat that makes a political statement, you need to answer questions about it when asked. Coward move https://t.co/LBPKj315dy

If it’s so important tell us about it bro. Explain why you’re voting for him. Maybe I’m missing something! But you can’t cause you’re just a reactionary loser who’s never thought seriously about anything in his life https://t.co/ZgNCGQ8IbJ
