The Tata-group owned Air India has canceled around 60 flights to the United States in November and December due to ongoing aircraft maintenance issues and supply chain constraints, an airline source told PTI. This will impact routes to major U.S. destinations such as San Francisco, Washington, Chicago, Newark, and New York.
In a statement, Air India confirmed the flight cancellations, citing delays in the return of several aircraft from heavy maintenance as the primary reason for the disruption. To assist affected passengers, Air India has offered alternative travel options on other flights within the same group, either on the same or adjacent days.
“Due to the delayed return of some aircraft from heavy maintenance and supply chain constraints, resulting in a temporary reduction in operating fleet, Air India regrets that a small number of flights have been canceled between now and end-December,” an Air India spokesperson said.
The cancellations come during a peak travel period and affect key routes, including five weekly flights between Delhi and Washington, as well as seven weekly flights from Delhi and Mumbai to New York. Air India also runs flights from Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru to San Francisco, and seven weekly flights from Delhi to Chicago.
Passengers have been notified of the cancellations, and arrangements are being made to minimize travel disruption for affected customers.
