In collaboration with the Office of Economic and Workforce Development and Downtown SF Partnership, San Francisco Mayor London Breed announced the city’s first Entertainment Zone event, geared to wow Oktoberfest enthusiasts on Front Street. In a free event slated for September 20th, between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m., attendees can meander along the thoroughfare between California and Sacramento streets, sipping to-go alcoholic beverages from local business stalwarts, including Schroeder’s, Harrington’s Bar & Grill, and Royal Exchange. As reported by the City and County of San Francisco, the festivities will include a lively mix of live music, themed beer games, and cultural costume contests to spice up the offerings.
The creation of this Entertainment Zone, christened under Senate Bill 76 and overseen by State Senator Scott Wiener, pivots on supporting the vibrant local nightlife and fostering economic rejuvenation. “We are thrilled to see the expansion of this beloved San Francisco tradition”, said Breed, emphasizing the initiative’s role in revitalizing the downtown experience. In a playful mix of cheer and urban strategy, Senator Wiener conveyed his pride in the city’s leap towards enlivening streets. “Once again, San Francisco is leading the way”, he remarked, as noted by the City and County of San Francisco.
Musical acts for the day will span from AlpineSound with German polka to Pop Rocks to cap off the night. Beyond the frothy beer sips, visitors can engage their competitive spirit with stein-holding contests or throw on some lederhosen to fully embrace the Oktoberfest mood. Sharing the community’s excitement, Schroeder’s Managing Partner Andrew Chun said, as per the City and County of San Francisco, “The history of this neighborhood is part of the foundation of San Francisco, and we can’t wait to take this opportunity to be a part of the next chapter of the city.”
Mayor London Breed turned to social media to herald the upcoming celebrations. “California’s first-ever Entertainment Zone is almost here,” she posted, with a nudge to dust off that Lederhosen for the September fare. The legislation, which Breed thanks Senator Wiener for, is a transformative piece for both enjoyment and opportunity growth in the city.
