With the Tennessee Titans sitting at 1-6 and in last place in the AFC South going into Week 9 of the 2024 season, the team could very well sell off some pieces ahead of the trade deadline on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
The Titans have already been active, with general manager Ran Carthon trading away wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins to the Kansas City Chiefs and linebacker Ernest Jones to the Seattle Seahawks.
So, who might be next? Well, Sporting News’ Vinnie Iyer believes defensive lineman Sebastian Joseph-Day could get dealt before 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday, and he thinks the Titans could reunite Joseph-Day with the San Francisco 49ers. Here’s what he said:
“The Titans aren’t moving Jeffery Simmons, but after dealing Hopkins and linebacker Ernest Jones, they need to move another veteran piece to stock up picks for their rebuild,” Iyer wrote. “Joseph-Day can go back to San Francisco to help the 49ers’ rotation.”
Tennessee signed Joseph-Day during the offseason with the team in desperate need of help along the defensive line. Through seven games, Joseph-Day has had a strong season, with his two sacks being just one shy of his career-best mark.
But the veteran is also on a one-year deal, so it would make sense to trade him, as it’s possible he won’t be back in 2025.
As far as what the Titans could get for him is concerned, Joseph-Day should garner a late Day 3 pick, and likely a sixth-rounder, at best. Not great, but it’s better than letting Joseph-Day potentially walk for nothing.
When it comes to the Niners, they make a lot of sense. San Francisco lost defensive lineman Javon Hargrave for the season, and Joseph-Day would provide an upgrade for the 49ers upfront, both against the run and as a pass-rusher.
Joseph-Day had an unsuccessful five-game stint (including playoffs) with the Niners last season, but the team might consider reuniting with him given what he’s done in 2024, and with their need upfront.
