Christian McCaffrey’s road toward making his season debut on Sunday continues to be smooth.
McCaffrey returned to practice this week and was limited during Wednesday’s session, but the good news is he’s feeling just fine. San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan said McCaffrey had “no pain” in either of his Achilles, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The 49ers opened the 21-day practice window on Monday for them to move McCaffrey from injured reserve to the active 53-man roster. The hope is he will make his season debut on Sunday in the team’s Week 11 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. While the report following Wednesday’s practice is positive, the 49ers will likely want to see if McCaffrey can make it through a full practice and emerge pain free before they move him to the active roster.
McCaffrey has not played at all this season while he has dealt with pain in both Achilles tendons since training camp. The 49ers had hoped he would be ready for Week 1, but when he wasn’t, they placed him on injured reserve before Week 2.
