Running back Christian McCaffrey is in contention to make his long-awaited comeback for the San Francisco 49ers today, as Kyle Shanahan’s men take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 10 of the NFL season.
McCaffrey “good to go”, says 49ers coach Shanahan
McCaffrey has been out all campaign with Achilles tendinitis, but returned to practice this week and was removed from San Francisco’s injured reserve list (IR) on Saturday. The 28-year-old was a limited participant in practice on Wednesday and Thursday, before stepping up to full participation on Friday.
The 49ers have listed McCaffrey as ‘questionable’ for the Buccaneers clash, but head coach Shanahan told reporters on Friday that the former Stanford Cardinal star looks to be ready for action.
“[McCaffrey] will be good to go,” Shanahan said. “Unless something crazy happens on this plane ride [to Florida], he should be good to go tomorrow once he gets off IR.” Asked if McCaffrey has looked like his usual self since rejoining practice, Shanahan said of the 2023 Offensive Player of the Year: “Yes, he had a good week.”
