SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — On Tuesday, San Francisco Police Chief William Scott along with other city leaders revealed how data shows crime is dropping in several key categories. Officials also revealed how the city’s use of technology is making a difference.
At a news conference Tuesday, Chief Scott pointed to several factors helping reduce crime throughout the city. The department demonstrated how the use of drones this year caught thieves breaking into cars along the Embarcadero.

The use of new license plate readers has also helped zero in on thieves. Other technology like surveillance cameras and drones has helped the department crack down on sideshows and shootings.
San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins said that when suspects are caught, they are held accountable. Outgoing San Francisco Mayor London Breed also acknowledged the work being accomplished.
“This is why I got into public service, to make a difference,” Breed said.
Chief Scott said the city will continue to embrace programs and technologies to further protect the city.
