Rapper P-Lo debuts new music, talks upcoming album that honors the Bay Area
Rapper and producer P-Lo, who is from the East Bay, has teamed up with the Warriors to drop new music ahead of the NBA All-Star Game in San Francisco. His upcoming album “For The Soil” pays homage to Bay Area culture and the team.
SAN FRANCISCO – Rapper and producer P-Lo, who is from the East Bay, has teamed up with the Golden State Warriors to drop new music that pays homage to Bay Area culture and the team.
P-Lo debuted a new anthem created just for the Warriors for the very first time on the court during Sunday evening’s game.
The Filipino American artist hyped up the crowd at Chase Center with a new track. He performed with the GSW Dance Team on Filipino Heritage Night.
The song is called “Don’t Lose Your Head,” a re-imagined collaboration with Bay Area DJ Jauz. It will be played at the start of every third quarter in every game this season.
“I think the Bay Area music scene is so incredible and so self-sustaining and rich in culture, and we want to bring that to Chase Center.”
The music video was shot at San Francisco’s landmark restaurant John’s Grill and Chase Center.
The new single was released under the Warriors’ own music label, Golden State Entertainment, or GSE. The Warriors are the only NBA team with an entertainment division.
P-lo has been a life-long fan of the team.
“Since I was a little boy, going to Oracle, and going to those games when they weren’t winning so much and it was still a packed house, and you get a different kind of pride when it comes from something like that, embracing the underdog mentality,” he said.
Ahead of the 2025 NBA All-Star Game at Chase Center in February, which will give San Francisco a global stage, GSE dropped “Players Holiday ‘25.” It features a roster of prominent Bay Area talent including Saweetie, G-Eazy, Larry June, and LaRussell.
It’s the lead single for P-Lo’s upcoming album, called “For The Soil,” which spotlights the Bay Area’s iconic sound, and highlights its diverse artists and ties to hip-hop and basketball culture.
“It’s just dope to be able to represent such a beautiful area that we’re all from, and that we all grew up in and that we all pull from inspiration from,” he said. “I just hope the album ‘For The Soil,’ just brings light to the Bay Area during a time when there’s going to be so many eyes on the Bay Area for All-Star weekend.”
Official Warriors DJ D-Sharp said the All-Star weekend also doubles as an opportunity to celebrate the Bay Area’s contributions to music, which is having a big moment.
“I think for the Bay Area to get the shine that it so rightfully deserves, I mean in our culture you hear a lot about people taking our sauce and going elsewhere, you got Kendrick dropping ‘Squabble Up,’ including the Hyphy Movement within that, which is great for us, it’s being celebrated on a national level,” he said.
Bay Area rap legends Too Short and E-40 will also be making appearances on the new album.
P-Lo plans to perform “Players Holiday ’25” at Chase Center in January, ahead of NBA All-Star weekend.
