With the bye weeks out of the way, the 2024 NFL season is nearing a thrilling conclusion and the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams start Week 15 with what should be a cracking NFC West contest at Levi’s Stadium.
Both teams are on the outside looking in as far as the playoffs are concerned – the Rams have a 7-6 record following last week’s brilliant 44-42 win over the Bills while the 6-7 49ers have work to do if they’re to repeat last season’s run to the Super Bowl.
There is little between the two California franchises in the match betting for Thursday’s game but we’re favouring the Niners as part of a bet builder which pays out at 9/1.

49ers should pull away on home turf
This is a high-pressure clash in the context of both teams’ seasons but particularly the 49ers, who have no margin for error whatsoever given their losing record.
While it’s not been a vintage season for Kyle Shanahan’s men, who have been hit by a series of injuries to key players on both offence and defence, they returned to top form in Week 14 to defeat the Chicago Bears and will view this as something of a free hit.
The Rams have won the last two clashes, mounting a fourth-quarter comeback to win 27-24 in Week 3 of this season and winning 21-20 in Santa Clara in January last season, albeit in a game in which 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy was absent.
Purdy has previously led the 49ers to victory over their divisional rivals, doing so at SoFi in September of the 2023 regular season, and he was at his clinical best against the Bears on Sunday, completing 80% of his passes for 325 yards and two touchdowns.
LA are riding high after their victory over the Bills but that was an emotionally draining win for a team who have been inconsistent this season.
Expect points to pile up in Santa Clara
The total is set high at 48.5 but there is every chance these teams combine for a high-scoring contest at the Levi’s.
The 49ers still boast a stout defence but Matthew Stafford and the Rams were good enough to go toe-to-toe with the Bills and, with wide receiver Puka Nacua in red-hot form, LA should help contribute to the scoring.
The Rams have, however, struggled on the defensive side of the ball all season, allowing an average of 25.5 points per game.
Niners QB Purdy could use his legs
The 49ers running backs have been dropping like flies and doubts remain over the health of Isaac Guerendo, who was already filling in for Christian McCaffrey and Jordan Mason.
Guerendo ran in two touchdowns against the Bears but he’s a doubt with a foot sprain, which could force Purdy to take matters into his own hands in the red zone.
Purdy is no stranger to using his legs – he has had four rushing touchdowns this season – all of which came in the Niners last four home games.
