The long days of spring seem a bit greener on 4/20 as a very California — and very San Francisco Bay Area — holiday celebrates local cannabis culture with its emerald buds and flowers. The large, annual outdoor festival at Golden Gate Park’s Hippie Hill, usually ground zero for the occasion, will not be happening this year, but organizers hope to welcome the festival back into the park in 2025. In lieu of the classic event, Volo Sports and the Rec and Park Department announced plans for a family-friendly “Peace, Love and Volo Field Day” at the Robin Williams Meadow area, featuring interactive sports activities and more set to take place on Saturday, April 20.
Despite the Hippie Hill party’s cancellation, there’s good news for Bay Area herb aficionados, as a new celebration dubbed SF Weed Week works to keep cannabis fans happy. Programming for the series, with events planned at San Francisco cannabis lounges, is set to occur during the week leading up to April 20. Features including meetups and workshops with farmers and venues uniquely licensed to allow onsite consumption, making the weeklong festival a good option for those seeking to celebrate and gain insights from farm to bud tender.
